If you’re looking to get the best night’s sleep possible, start by setting your body up for success. BlockBlueLight offers a range of blue light blocking lenses designed to help your body get the rest it needs.

As the sun goes down and the amount of ambient light decreases, your body ramps up production of a hormone called melatonin. High levels of this hormone correlate with feelings of tiredness, helping you drift off peacefully to sleep. To ensure that you’re alert and awake throughout the day, melatonin production can be suppressed by exposure to certain wavelengths of visible light – specifically blue light. The blue light inherent in sunlight helps to wake you up and keep you up, giving you the energy, clarity and focus needed to go about your day.

That’s great for when you’re driving, working, exercising or just spending time with friends and family, but what about when it’s time for some shut eye? Unfortunately, many of the products we use day-to-day such as mobile phones, LED bulbs and computer monitors emit blue-heavy light that can artificially cut melatonin production. An hour or so scrolling Instagram before bed can give your brain the wrong idea that it’s time to get up and do things – not settle in for a night’s sleep.
